Tubed, dual-mono, line-level preamplifier. The EVO 400 has twin custom-wound toroidal power transformers, said to be low in hum and electromagnetic interference. Six expensive tin-foil capacitors sourced from a Swiss factory (DuRoch) that typically only supplies the likes of NASA and Boeing are used in critical coupling locations. Swiss-made silver-plated OFC wiring is used in the signal path along with Japanese custom-built Takman resistors, which are known for their musicality. A soft-start circuit allows tube filaments to reach operating temperature before applying high voltage. Sealed relays are used for switching sources. The only deviation from dual mono is the volume control, a stereo motorized Alps Blue Velvet conductive-plastic potentiometer. The EVO 400 combines the virtues of modern tube sound with the tonal heft and timbral realism afforded by vintage tube preamps. Specifications: Tube complement: six 12AU7, two 5AR4 Rectifiers. (6) Inputs: 3 x single-ended (RCA), 2 x balanced (XLR), 1 x home-theater bypass (RCA). Phono optional. (3) Outputs: 1 x Balanced (XLR), 1 x single-ended (RCA) and 1 x tape out (RCA). Gain: 10dB. Input impedance: 220k ohms. Output impedance: 256 ohms. Input sensitivity: 650mV. S/N ratio: 93 dB. Frequency response: 10Hz –95kHz, ±1dB. Remarks: Two minor dents on the right and left corners of the back panel and one dent on the rear top of the back panel.
