Naim CD5 CD player was introduced for the first time in year 2000. It was the successor of the CD3.5. With a low-vibration, more sophisticated casework in comparison to the old olive series. Philips' VAM 1205, the transport that Naim used in all of its CD players, was built into the swing-out door and decoupled from it by an elastomer mounting system. A small puck—part of the low-inertia magnetic clamping system used here and in other Naim players—holds the CD in place and gives the loading process the feel of a high-end LP turntable. Philips' SAA7376 servo-controller and TDA 1305 4x-oversampling, 18-bit digital filter/DAC combo chip; and the Burr-Brown op-amp analog output chips. The onboard power supply has 12 individually tested voltage regulators, and a Talema transformer with two secondary windings: one for the digital circuitry and transport, one for the analog circuitry. For improved performance; a FlatCap or HiCap power supply can be connected to power the analogue circuitry. The CD5 continued Naim's reputation for producing a fine sense of musical time, impressive low-frequency extension and definition. Specifications: Frequency response: 10Hz-20kHz, +0.1dB, -0.5dB. Output level: 2.0V RMS at 1kHz. Output impedance: 10 ohms max. Phase response: linear, absolute-phase correct. Laser type: Semiconductor AIGaAs. 1 x Analog Output (Din 5 Pin 180º) and 1 x Input for external power supply. Remarks. a) No original packaging b) One scratch on the top panel.
